open ports in hathway

Hi all,
My uncle recently got an hathway connection. He got an scientific atlanta dpr 2320 op dpc 2100 r2 Now he wants to know how to check for open ports one way is definitely through the online way, the other maybe using nmap, anybody else know anything?
